This is a liquid handling, imaging microfluidic positioning instrument that operates based on the Internet-of-Things (IoT) which some people call the Internet-of-Everthing (IoE). This is a decentralized system comprising a cluster of separate devices controlled by ARM computers that communicate together to form complex laboratory automation processes.

So these are sort of your traditional LAMP based servers (Linux Apache MySQL and PHP/Python) but without MySQL instead it uses JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) flat file objects rather then relational databases like MySQL. JSON is used just because it is alot more flexible and portable and you can still search against it if necessary.

This makes it possible to easily integrate this data with other datasets thereby creating customized laboratory information management systems (LIMS) for many different laboratory automation applications. This means that you run the system through a webserver (Apache) which is nice since it can run through your favorite browser like Chrome, Firefox, Opera, etc. At a programming level, in addition to PHP and Python which is used mostly, there is also a bit of Javascript going on and special Javascript packages like ProcessingJS which is a convenient image processing tool.
